In twelve days, the US will embark on a perilous journey on the river Danger, stepping off of solid ground onto a thin sheet of ice. There will be lots of noise and creaking ice. But the ice may break at any moment, throwing us and the nation into the icy waters below. It will be like the Perils of Pauline or Eliza crossing the ice on her way north to freedom.
