Paul Taylor, a leading name in the smooth jazz genre, has returned with an incredible new release! On February 28, 2025, he unveiled It's a Brand New Day. This marks Taylor’s first album with Shanachie and his thirteenth studio effort. For contemporary jazz enthusiasts, this album offers a delightful listening experience filled with the energy and liveliness that Taylor is known for.

Over the years, Paul Taylor has crafted an impressive career, highlighted by numerous Billboard No. 1 hits and collaborations with a wide range of artists, such as Regina Belle, Maxi Priest, Peabo Bryson, Keiko Matsui, The Rippingtons, Peter White, Euge Groove, Michael Lington, Jamie Jones, and Marion Meadows. "I simply love creating and composing my own music. It’s what brings me the greatest joy, and that passion never fades," he reveals. Danny Weiss, Vice President of Shanachie’s Jazz division, comments: "I have admired Paul’s work since his earliest recordings. His phrasing and tone are extraordinary. Paul Taylor is a true icon, and his status is well deserved."

Taylor's music has consistently transformed, and his latest LP teams him up with long-time friends and exceptional producers Dino Esposito and Barry Eastmond for nine original tracks and an impressive Billie Eilish cover. It's a Brand New Day showcases his journey into new sounds while remaining faithful to his smooth jazz origins. We are excited to highlight it in the upcoming edition of What's Hot at the Ten Spot on RadioActive1 WBOB.

A Lifelong Collaboration

Once again, Taylor collaborates with his longtime partner Dino Esposito (known for working with Jeff Lorber, Wayman Tisdale, Walter Beasley, and Kim Waters), with whom he has been working for nearly thirty years. Together, they have co-written several tracks, including the captivating "Forever More," a collaboration with the legendary Barry Eastmond (who has worked with Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Britney Spears, Barry White, and Chaka Khan). The track’s irresistible bassline and mesmerizing groove immediately draw in the listener. “Dino and Barry are more than just colleagues; they are dear friends,” Taylor says. “We push each other to new heights. They allow me the freedom to express myself while bringing their own expertise to the table.”

They provide the perfect environment for me to express myself while contributing their unique skills.” This powerful combination of talent and friendship is evident throughout the album.

Musical Diversity

The diversity within It's a Brand New Day stands out as one of its greatest strengths. The album seamlessly shifts from energetic tracks like the vibrant opener Brand New Day to soul-stirring ballads such as Forever More. This range showcases Taylor's talent as both a musician and composer, making each song unique while contributing to a unified listening experience.

Listeners will value the album's structure, which balances energy with introspection. From the thrilling rhythms of tracks like Night Flight to the tranquil melodies of his rendition of Eilish's Chihiro, each song invites deep engagement with the music. Honestly, I'm not a Billie Eilish fan, but Taylor's cover of her song led me to explore her work, and I must admit I added her to our playlist as a result. Ultimately, jazz enthusiasts will find Paul Taylor's new LP appealing, whether they want to dance or simply relax and savor the moment.

Personal Favorites

As a fan since his 2007 LP Ladies Choice, I’ve witnessed Taylor's growth as an artist. With It's a Brand New Day, several tracks stand out. The title track is uplifting, symbolizing hope and new beginnings, making it ideal for anyone embarking on a new phase in their life.

Making it into the top ten of my upcoming Hit List, Forever More highlights the magnificent partnership with Eastmond. The song's rhythm, blending multiple jazz styles into a seamless composition, embodies the spirit of artistic collaboration. It's a track that profoundly resonates, showcasing the emotional depth that his album has to offer.
