His words often rang
harsh and hurtful
but always seemed so true.
He made us take off
the rose colored glasses
to see the world and
yes – even ourselves,
as we really and truly were.
As is the case so often,
we never realized his genius,
his value, his courage
until far too late –
and now he’s gone.
